General

Q. Do your products remove MTBE?

A. The FM-4010L Series or Ultimate faucet has received California certification for the reduction of MTBE. Testing showed a 95 percent removal rate with MTBE influent level of 15 ppb.

Q. Will the PUR Self-Monitoring Water Filters soften water?
A. No. Filter cartridges do not contain any softening agents that have a softening effect on water.

Q. How do the units affect fluoride?
A. The PUR Self-Monitoring Water Filters do not signifigantly reduce the level of fluoride in the water source.

Q. What is Cryptosporidium?
A. Cryptosporidium is a waterborne infectious microorganism which can come from surface waters. Animal feces is the primary source of Cryptosporidium. The microorganisms are ingested by drinking water and can infect the small intestine, causing Cryptosporidiosis. Symptoms are similar to intestinal flu and last for about 12 days. Cryptsporidium resists such disinfectants as chlorine because the hard outer shell (oocyst) serves as a protector of the microorganism.

Q. Will the filters remove bacteria or viruses?
A. Do not use these products with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.

Q. Why is PUR a better alternative than bottled water?
A. PUR is more convenient than bottled water. PUR eliminates the hassle of hauling large jugs of water from the store or waiting for delivered water. PUR costs less per gallon than bottled water. Each PUR product line is independently certified by NSF to meet its claims -- not all bottled water is certified.

Q. How long do the filters last?
A. 40 gallons - approximately 1-2 months.

Q. How do I know when to change the filter?
A. The filter has a red indicator on the top of the filter that moves clockwise as the filter is used. When the red dot has reached the end of the life indicator , the filter needs to be replaced.

Pitchers and Dispenser

Q. What makes the PUR Plus Pitcher better than the leading brand?
A. The PUR Plus Pitcher is the only pitcher that removes the microbiological cysts Cryptosporidium and Giardi. The leading pitcher cannot remove these cysts. The PUR Plus Pitcher has an exclusive Automatic Safety Monitor™ Gauge that monitors filter usage, telling you when to replace the filter, so there is no guess work. The PUR Plus Pitcher has an exclusive safety seal fill tray which offers the extra protection of a sealed fill tray to keep unfiltered water from filtered water when filling and pouring.

Q. Will the PUR Plus Pitcher still remove bad taste and odor?
A. Yes. The PUR Plus Pitcher improves taste by reducing chlorine, bad taste and odor.

Q. What are the pitcher filters made of?
A. The standard pitcher replacement filter is made of ion exchange resin and granular activated carbon. The PUR Plus Pitcher replacement filter contains ion exchange resin and granular activated carbon enclosed within a pleated microfilter. The microfilter allows for the removal of microbiological cysts such as Cryptosporidium and Giardi. The filter contains an antimicrobial agent to prolong the life of the filter. The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by this unit are not necessarily in all users' water.

Faucet Mount, Countertop & Undersink

Q. What type of faucets will the faucet mount, countertop and undersink filters fit on?
A. PUR developed a number of adapters to accommodate different types of faucets. The filter comes with different adapters. The undersink model has a faucet tap which will fit in the sprayer hole on your sink.

Q. Are the faucet mounts, countertops, and undersink models difficult to attach to the faucet?
A. All of the models that attach to the faucet are designed for easy installation. Faucet Mount and Countertop Models - The faucet mount and countertop models easily attach to the end of the faucet. First, simply remove the aerator from your faucet. Second, determine whether or not you need an adapter (included in package). Third, attach system to your faucet by twisting the mounting nut/diverter valve onto the end of the faucet. Undersink Model - The undersink model can be installed in four easy steps. First, remove the sprayer on your sink and install the 3 hose faucet tap. Second, mount the filter housing under your sink. Third, install the T-valve fitting to the cold water line and attach the Fast Connect™ fitting from the faucet tap to the T-valve (blue hose). Fourth, connect the gray and clear hoses from the tap to the undersink housing.

Q. How long do the filters last?
A. Faucet Mount - 100 gallons (approximately 2 to 3 months). Countertop - 200 gallons (approximately 4 to 6 months). Undersink - 200 gallons (approximately 4 to 6 months). Q. How do I know when to change the faucet mount, countertop and undersink filters?
A. All of PUR's water filters have The Automatic Safety Monitor™ Gauge (ASM®) technology which monitors filter usage. Once the red bar appears in the ASM window on the faucet mount, countertop and undersink models, the filtered water will slow or completely shut off, indicating filter cartridge replacement is needed. See Demo.

Q. What are the filters made of?
A. The faucet mount, countertop and undersink cartridges are made of carbon and an active agent to remove lead. The carbon and active agent are bound in a block form.

Q. Do the faucet mount, countertop and undersink filters reduce water pressure?
A. Water will flow from all units at the rate of 2.5 liters per minute at an influent pressure of 60 psi.

Q. How do you wash dishes with the models that attach to the faucet?
A. The models that attach to the faucet have a bypass feature that will allow unfiltered water to flow through the tap. Faucet Mount - The faucet mount will tip back into the by-pass position. Countertop - The countertop unit has a bypass tab on the faucet attachment. Undersink - The undersink model has a hose faucet tap with a black handle that operates as the bypass feature. Q. Can you run hot water through the faucet mount, countertop, and undersink filters?
A. No! Filter only cold water. Running hot water through the filters will decrease the effectiveness of the filter.

Q. Will I damage my faucet mount, countertop or undersink filter if I don't run water through it for a period of time?
A. No. However, if the filter has not been used for a number of days, flush the filter well by running cold water through it for 3 minutes to reactivate the media in the filter.
